Community, Access, and Bending the Raster: A Conversation with Nica Ross and Seej (2025)
I was invited to take part in a conversation with podcast hosts David Lublin, creator of VJ software VDMX; Cornelius Henke III, creative technologist; and Chris Jordan (Seej), live visual artist. We had a wide-ranging conversation about live visuals, creative technology, and the communities that sustain experimental art practices, exploring everything from analog “wet sets” and found-footage collage to CRT wobbulators, thermal imaging, and large-scale performance environments. We also discussed the importance of access to tools and shared resources, the role of creative research spaces and grassroots gatherings in building artistic communities, and the value of curiosity, experimentation, and showing the human hand behind the technology.
